Artist Statement

Ever since I read the book, Moby Dick, (50 yrs ago) I have been intrigued with chapter 42, The Whiteness of the Whale.

Ishamel attempts to describe why he finds the whiteness of the Moby Dick to be his most terrifying feature. He describes the various meanings of the colour white. It can confer a supernatural, upsetting aspect of living things. The popular idea of white is purity, perfection or goodness. I will leave it up to the individual... is white a colour or is it an abomination?
