Disappearing Lemurs of Madagascar: Aye-Aye

2023, Acrylic on canvas 49” x 36” $1600

Owing to the elongated and extremely sensitive middle finger of her hands - which she uses to gather the insects on which she feeds -, the aye-aye is killed on sight by people who traditionally have seen in that odd anatomy a proof of evil origin and intent. Next to her, the sifaka, who bounds through the canopy using her powerful hind legs, but cannot walk, has been radically decimated by deforestation.
